It is past sunset in Barra Banda village, District Torghar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Each house is glowing with a luminous bulb which makes this small settlement of 55 households look like a constellation of stars with dark mountains in the background. Aslam Khan, 12 and a student of seventh grade, lives in one of these star-like houses. He is doing his homework sitting under the bulb in his house and is optimistic for good grades in coming exams.
Waheeda, a 3 year old returnee girl bearing third degree burn on her skull lives in joint family system with her 3 siblings, parents and grandparents in village Gowder. Gowder is situated at about 24 kilometer towards North-West form Tehsil Head Quarter Hospital Sadda Central Kurram Tribal District-Pakistan. The Village is comprised of about 740 houses. People are living in joint family system. Houses are stone and mud made. People mostly depend on local remittances. Some of them live abroad and earn their bread and butter.
Laiba a 5 year old girl suffers from Cutaneous leishmaniasis living in joint family system with her 9 siblings, parents and grandparents at village Jamal Khel Wara Tehsil Dossali North Waziristan Agency- Federally Administered & Tribal Area-FATA Pakistan. Jamal Khel village is situated in the hilly terrain for about two kilometer towards west form Dossali Civil Hospital. The village is comprised of roughly 21 houses. Houses are stone and mud made. People mostly depend on local remittances. Some of them live abroad and earn their bread and butter. The village lack agricultural land, drinking water sources, grocery stores, electricity, schools, and health facilities. People keep cattle for getting dairy products like milk, butter, yogurt, cheese and much more.

SHED strives for transformation of communities through adaptation of international standards in the form of laws, conventions, treaties and international obligations that Pakistan has ratified mutually in a view to eliminate all forms of discrimination and ensure human rights at the door step. SHED has been actively engaged in the transformation of communities through the interventions being carried out at community level and advocacy with line departments. Social mobilization is carried out as a cross cutting theme to inform communities on their rights and duties and capacitate them to strive for the attainment of their rights ensured in the constitution of Pakistan.
SHED provides quality services through program implementation both in humanitarian and development contexts. These services are supported by the organization's SOPs, internal control systems, BoD-expertise, policies and procedures, complaint redressal mechanism and community participation, Donors' Guidelines and Government Laws & Regulations. International Standards like Sphere Standards, Do-No-Harm etc are practiced to ensure provision of quality services.
The organization has been able in the recent years to expand its geographical coverage from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to other parts of the country . SHED has so far managed to work in 30 districts in Pakistan including 16 in KP, 5 in Newly Merged Districts, 8 in Punjab and Islamabad.
SHED's mandate includes developing human resources more broadly. In this respect, SHED offers internships to fresh Bachelors/Diploma/ Master’s degree holders and also to students on the verge of completing their graduation & post-graduate studies irrespective of gender descrimination. The purpose is to stimulate youth to practical situations, build and enhance their knowledge base, impart skills and train them to become useful members of the society.
