Society for Human and Environmental Development (SHED) is a non for profit and non-governmental organization established and registered under the Societies Act XXI 1860 in 2007. SHED aims to work in Development and Humanitarian contexts to provide relief to affected population in the country. The organization also aims to empower communities through capacity building, targeted activities, advocacy and social mobilization on human development issues on sustainable basis.

SHED has vast experience of working in 16 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa including Swabi, Mardan, Charsadda, Hangu, Lower Dir, Swat, Haripur, Bannu, Buner, Malakand, Nowshera, Peshawar, Kohat, D.I Khan and Torghar and in newly merged districts including Khyber Tribal District, Orakzai Tribal District, Kurram Tribal District, South Waziristan Tribal district and North Waziristan Tribal district. SHED has also experience of working in various districts of Punjab including Attock, Multan, Muzzafar Garh, DG Khan, Rajan Pur, Mianwali, Nankana Sahib, Rawalpindi and Islamabad Capital Terrority.

SHED provides quality and professionally supported welfare services to culturally diverse communities in rural / urban parts of Pakistan through community participation and engagement. By developing new sources of capital and innovative tools for community development, the organization aims to organize and advocate activities and developmental projects/programs that advance and promote the quality of community life. SHED is committed to facilitate better quality of life in all its realms through community mobilization, participatory governance based on sustainable resource management and reconstruction development initiatives. Thus community participation, education, protection and promotion of peaceful society and improved livelihood are central to its initiatives.

  • Interventions in these areas have been made possible through financial assistance extended by donor organizations such as, UNHCR, UNOCHA, USAID, UNWHO, UNFPA, UNDP, PPAF, UNICEF, Peshawar Uplift Program (PUP), IOM, Pakistan Kuwait Investment Company (Private Limited), Philip Morris Pakistan Limited, Local Philanthropists, Diakonie (DKH), Swiss Development Cooperation (SDC), Help-Age International, NRSP, TDEA, Johanniter International , Australian High Commission, Embassy of Japan, State Life Insurance Corporation of Pakistan and the like. Whereas, effective execution of these projects is ensured through its competent staff members based at its Head Office in Peshawar and Project Offices in different parts of Pakistan including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab and erstwhile FATA.
